Our Team
Chavonne Bertamini
Owner/Veterinarian
Hi, I’m Dr. Chavonne Bertamini, and I’m so glad you’re here! I’ve wanted to be a vet since I was a kid, and that passion has shaped every step of my journey. When it comes to my training, I’ve been all over — I earned my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 2018 from Ross University in St. Kitts, where I traded snowy winters for sandy beaches. My clinical year took me to Purdue University in Indiana, followed by a rotating internship in Saskatoon. From there, I jumped into the fast-paced world of emergency and urgent care before finding my true calling in general practice.
I grew up in Calgary, so opening Pawmer Vet Clinic feels like coming full circle. And although my studies led me to tropical shores, my heart has always been here. My goal is to create a warm, welcoming space where pets get the best care and you feel supported every step of the way.
Outside the clinic, you’ll find me exploring the mountains, staying active, or spending time with my golden retriever, Cali, and my partner, Tyler. I can’t wait to meet you and your furry family members!
Jamie Novak
Lead Veterinary Technician
Growing up on a farm, Jamie developed a natural passion for animal care from an early age. She graduated from the Fairview Animal Health Technology (AHT) program in 2007 and has since dedicated her career to the veterinary field. With a strong background in general practice and a wealth of hands-on experience, Jamie brings invaluable expertise to our team at Pawmer Vet Clinic.
One of Jamie’s career highlights was her unforgettable experience in South Africa in 2010, where she served as a veterinary nurse in the wild, contributing to the care of diverse and exotic species.
At home, Jamie’s love for animals continues with her own pet family, including two horses, Duke and Samson; two dogs, Nova and Sarge; and two cats, Bain and Sushi. In her spare time, you’ll find her trail riding with her horses, camping, or playing softball.
As our lead veterinary technician, Jamie plays a critical role in ensuring top-quality care for our patients and supporting our team with her leadership and experience. We’re thrilled to have her guiding our practice as we grow and continue to prioritize fear-free, compassionate care for all our patients.
Tyler Farrell
Our Handyman & All-Around Support Hero
Though not an official employee, Tyler is an essential part of the Pawmer Vet Clinic family. Born on the East Coast, he brings a can-do attitude to everything from fixing things around the clinic to helping with our advertising and creative projects. When he’s not lending a hand here, you can find him enjoying time outdoors—especially fishing and golfing. He’s also Dr. Bertamini’s never-ending support system, and we’re so grateful to have him around. Don’t be surprised if you see him helping out behind the scenes or chatting with clients—he’s always happy to lend a hand and a smile!
Jamie Fontaine
Client Care Specialist (Receptionist)
Jamie is the friendly face you’ll see when you walk into Pawmer Vet Clinic! She has a special passion for rehabilitation and palliative care, helping pets and their families navigate difficult times with kindness and expertise.
Jamie truly believes in the deep bond between humans and animals and strives to make every visit as stress-free and welcoming as possible. She loves getting to know clients and their pets, making sure everyone feels supported and cared for.
When she’s not at the clinic, Jamie is at home with her two rescue kitties, Ira and Baron, tending to her terrarium and its tiny, colourful residents — two Brazilian dart frogs named Ralph and Sam. In the evenings, you’ll often find her relaxing with her leopard gecko, Papaya, enjoying their quiet moments together.
Jenna Ferguson
Tech Assistant
Hi there!
My name is Jenna, and I’ve been obsessed with animals since my first pony ride, which led me to 17 years of training and competing with horses. My love for animals has always been at the heart of everything I do, so it made sense to continue with it in my career.
After earning my diploma in Veterinary Technician Assistance and Office Administration, I’ve been fortunate to gain years of hands-on experience in every aspect of the veterinary field. From scrubbing into surgery and assisting with exotic animals to handling spirited felines and overly enthusiastic pups, I’m always ready to jump in and help.
Through the years, my experiences have allowed me to understand what makes this job so meaningful — witnessing the unconditional love that every animal gives.
Outside of work, I enjoy preserving wedding bouquets as a creative hobby and relaxing with my pets, Rue, Dezzy, and Pew Pew, where we indulge in rom-coms and reality TV.
I’m excited to be part of the Pawmer Veterinary Clinic team, where I can share my love for animals and dedication to providing exceptional care.
Taylor
Taylor and their partner have recently embraced parenthood, expanding their family to include not just their golden retriever, Princess Margaret, but also their newborn, Fiona.
Taylor, known for making pet parenting their primary trait, now navigates the joyful chaos of having two prides of joy. Margaret, who walked into Taylor’s downtown apartment as a pup three years ago, still enjoys monthly grooming and customized outfits for every occasion, but now shares the spotlight with Fiona (although she may not admit it, Margaret loves being an older sister). While Margaret usually goes to the office with Taylor, she’s recently found herself getting pampered at the Petropolitan during the week, while Taylor tends to Fiona at home.
Weekends see the sweet family at local dog-friendly breweries or visiting local art galleries when Margaret has gotten all of her zoomies out.
